March 17, 2005Overall I am sick of dealing with my K&N - even though they have sent me new parts. My question is - Can I rig up a regular round air cleaner (like on most carb. equipped trucks) on an 01 5.9L dodge gas engine. As long as I can get one to fit over the throttle body, and be able to clamp it down I don't see any issues. Unless I am forgetting something?

March 17, 2005The 5.2 Magnum in my 92 Dakota had a round air cleaner on the TB, it was most likely the same injection setup as yours, rail injection in the intake, the TB was mounted just like the GM TBI, but it was only for air.
September 14, 2005honestly, i doubt you could, my stepdad has a '91 w150, that has the tb injection, and it uses the old style filters, but, the newer magnum engines use an MPI system, which uses an intake plenum and the TB is mounted on it's side, instead of upright, like the older models. although, anything is possible, it wouldn't be too easy, you would have to probably rig up a 90 degree fitting of some sort, but i would think you would have clearance issues with the hood. but, i don't claim to be an expert, or a real mechanic, i'm just a young buck tinkerer, lol. good luck if you decide to try it though.
